Campground Update:

Getting to the Whitney Portal Campground in the summer of 2016 is going to be challenging. They’re repaving the main road from Lone Pine to Whitney Portal. Expect 3 hour delays twice a day.

You won’t be able to park your car along the road during construction. If parking isn’t available, walk-in permits for the Mount Whitney trail will not be issued.

If you’re hiking the Mount Whitney Trail and aren’t camping at Whitney Portal, it’s a good idea to carpool, have a friend drop you off, or take a shuttle from Lone Pine. And bring along your patience.
