1Y0B6375-Tall Fences

Patrick and I have wondered, too. We came up with all kinds of theories. Perhaps they were to keep the deer from jumping on the highway, we though. Or maybe they were to protect the road from avalanches. But where the fences are located there are no hills behind, so we knew that was unlikely.

They’re located around the Glass Creek Road area on Highway 395 and also as you’re driving on Highway 203 into Mammoth.

I recently asked the visitor center in Mammoth and it turns out their purpose is to stop snow drifts from piling up on the highway.
